We are happy to present you with some examples of existing applications where MEITEC measurement technology contributes to the success of precision manufacturing processes. Surface finishing - in-process
Our long-standing customer Thielenhaus Technologies GmbH is a manufacturer of micro-machines and uses MEITEC-measuring systems with renowned end users around the globe in some types of machines that are manufactured in various international locations.

In-process measurements with MEITEC CS100 and EMK2
Up to four in-process measurement positions with up to eight MEITEC measuring heads also help with workpieces with interruptions, for the reliable production of parts with minimum manufacturing tolerances.

In addition to in-process measuring points, MEITEC technology is also used - depending on application - in pre-process and/or post-process measuring points for raw materials or finished part surveying and classification. By using a pre-process measuring point, an exact relation can be established between the workpiece input variables and subsequent processing. This allows for example highly accurate drilling depths and step heights to be performed.

The control of machining cycles, also by means of constant erosion measurement or measurement halving, are standard features of measurement control functions. Thielenhaus Technologies also uses MEITEC systems in other types of machines, such as inductive amplifiers with axial sensors for tilting adjustments.

Double-disc surface grinding
Since Supfina Grieshaber GmbH & Co. KG opened its double-disc surface grinding business unit, MEITEC measurement technology has been represented at leading end customers at home and abroad in the machine series Planet V.

In-process and post-process measurements with MEITEC CS100, SMK1 and EMK2

In-process measurement with SMK1
The MEITEC grinding wheel measuring head SMK1 is placed directly on the lower grinding wheel in the grinding chamber and ensures both the correct position of the grinding wheel and the monitoring of wheel wear. Use of MEITEC SMK1 helps to efficiently control the workpiece in the grinding gap by constant monitoring during the grinding process and is an important element in avoiding unnecessary dressing cycles. This allows non-productive time and tooling costs to be significantly reduced.

Once the surface-ground workpieces have left the grinding chamber, MEITEC single-point measuring heads EMK2 are used in the post-process measuring site. Here, also in discontinuous workpiece surfaces, thickness control is carried out directly in the workpiece flow and the trend curve is determined. Through appropriate influencing of the grinding gap, various kinds of highly accurate parts are ground, including for clocks gears and ball bearings.

Operation and visualization with MRTP 104D

The operator always has an overview of the grinding process. This is realized in the company Supfina Grieshaber with its Planet V machine series by displaying post-process trend value curves, in-process measurement values and a short-histogram of the individual measurements in measurement process images.

Beyond mere measurement control functions, the performance of the MEITEC CS100 is used in some Planet V machines to monitor machine tilting and structure-borne sound visualization and analysis.

Surface finishing - post-process
Robert Bosch GmbH uses MEITEC technology at various locations inside and outside Germany. In new machines, as well as for the overhaul of existing machinery and in measuring machines, MEITEC measuring controls and components are used successfully for the monitoring of machining processes and component quality.

Post-process measurement with MEITEC measuring machines
Implemented in the workpiece transfer after surface finishing work, MEITEC measuring machines take over quality control of not yet cleaned workpieces, as part of a post-process system.

Measuring and controlling with MEITEC CS100
Once a workpiece has reached the measuring machine, the measurement control MEITEC CS100 takes over all control tasks required for the exact positioning of the workpiece on the measurement point and the rotation of the workpiece during the measurement. Pneumatic measurement technology is used for measurements of the entire type spectrum of workpieces with and without discontinuities. The forwarding of data to the control system of our client Robert Bosch is carried out by the MEITEC CS100, as well as communication to the robot-based Baumann-handling system for workpiece loading and unloading. In addition, feedback of the measured values can be given to the in-process MEITEC measurement control integrated in the processing machine. The MEITEC measuring machine is designed as a self-monitoring system with plausibility checks. Thus, without much maintenance, at all times an optimally equipped measuring system is available.

Operation and visualization with MRTP 104D
All steps and measurements of the measurement process are graphically displayed on the touch panel MEITEC MRTP 104D, so operators and tool setters have all post-process measurements at a glance. Operation and setup is also done in the various menus of the MRTP MEITEC 104D.

Centerless grinding
For several years, SKF GmbH has been using MEITEC measurement technology at its location in Mulheim for post-process measurements of centerless grinders, to measure a variety of workpiece types.

Post-process measurement with MEITEC CS100 and EMK2
To check the outer diameter of ground workpieces, a post-process measuring point has been integrated into the workpiece conveyor of the SKF plant. To cover the wide variety of parts, the measurement point is equipped with two MEITEC EMK2 measuring heads, which were built on an adjustable crank. This allows the measuring point to be best adjusted for the machining process with only slight manual setup efforts. The recording of measured values and transmission of correction values to the machine controller takes place over the MEITEC CS100 and ensures highly accurate workpiece production. By using MEITEC measurement control, the SKF factory in Mülheim achieves a dimensional accuracy of <= 1 micron in centerless grinding.
